information about premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation, often referred to as “PE” is a problem found in an estimated 30 - 40% of the male population. Professionals and doctors who treat patients with premature ejaculation define this condition as the situation whereby the male ejaculation occurs with minimal sexual stimulation before or shortly after penetration, leaving both sexual partners dissatisfied. Yes, we need to consider the female also for this delicate condition because premature ejaculation affects both parties and we always encourage couples to have a healthy and fulfilling sexual relationship.

Doctors diagnose PE in patients based on the males’ lack of climax control. This is most often defined by an ability to last no longer than 2 to 3 minutes from the point of penetration. A dysfunctional pattern of the problem is usually evident with more than 50% of the attempts in a sexual relationship. The PE problem can be caused by psychological and emotional factors such as fear, guilt, performance anxiety or even physical related illnesses. A stressful day can also contribute to this.

Causes of PE

  • Psychological PE problems are believed to be related to early sexual experiences when one masturbates in a hurried environment with guilt feeling to reach climax quickly as to avoid being caught or discovered. This behavior can lead to an irregular pattern of having the tendency to rush things during sex.
  • Emotional and mental strain or simply stress that develops during your day of life plays a role in your performance. Some men that feel they have inadequate skills to satisfy their partner in bed can lead to feelings of anxiety. All these emotions give you the inability to relax and focus during sexual encounters which can contribute to premature ejaculation.
  • Other physical attributes are experiencing occasional impotence for fear of losing your erection can also make you rush during sex. Medication that influences the action of chemical in the brain can cause premature ejaculation in some cases.

Furthermore, premature ejaculation is something men do not want to admit and do not feel comfortable talking about to their physicians or even with their own partners. It is one of those topics that are unspoken of in almost every culture despite the fact that men all around the world are commonly affected by PE. Early Ejaculation can impact a man’s entire life, leaving him feeling inadequate and embarrassed. Leaving this PE condition untreated can affect the male both physically and emotionally.  Common symptoms in men with PE are poor control over ejaculation, difficulty in becoming sexually aroused and relaxed during sex, low satisfaction with sexual relationships, and low interest and satisfaction in having sex. These symptoms can have a negative impact in the quality of life for both partners sexually.

Types of Treatments

There are various types of treatment and therapy to help prolong ejaculation in the male. Depending on the severity and complexity of the case, treatment can range from simple techniques to counseling. A man can learn how to delay ejaculation by understanding and recognizing when he is about to ejaculate.

The “stop - start” method
This method involves sexual stimulation of a man until he gets excited and almost about to ejaculate. He then stops all sexual stimulation until he no longer has the urge to come and starts stimulation again. This process is repeated about 10 times or until he desires to ejaculate.

The “squeeze - pause” method
Similarly this method involves sexual stimulation of a man until he realizes that he is about to ejaculate then either he or his partner can administer a firm squeeze on the penis glans. The man should feel some slight discomfort but no pain. The process is repeated about 10 times or until the man has an urge to ejaculate.

Counseling
If there are psychological or interpersonal factors related in PE problems, professional counseling or psychotherapy may be necessary for treatment. If the man ejaculates early during his initial foreplay or sexual excitement, it’s a serious problem! He should see a therapist to get his PE problem diagnosed.

Desensitizing Cream
In most cases using desensitizing creams are usually effective and safe as long as the man has no allergic reaction to the substance. This is done by desensitizing the penis which can help control the anxiety to come too fast and resulting in the man being able to last longer. Desensitizing creams can come in the form of herbal or chemical products. View Herbal vs. Chemical page

Surgery
Currently there are no recommended surgeries that exist for premature ejaculation. Personally we don’t recommend this method anyway.
